Our Career and Technical Education (CTE) High School Internship Program officially came to a close on May 9, and we couldn’t be prouder of the growth and accomplishments of this year’s student interns. In partnership with Somerville ISD, this program provided students with an opportunity to explore real-world careers in construction and energy through observation-based learning at Evers & Sons.
Throughout the semester, students participated in a structured, rotation-based experience across core departments including Welding, Fabrication, Quality Control, Safety, Operations, and Mechanics. Each week, they shadowed various members of our team to gain insight into how different roles contribute to building and maintaining energy infrastructure.
We extend our sincere thanks to the mentors who made this program possible: Casey Best, Silvestre Bahena, Laura Martinez, Weldon Ellis, Jesus Rangel, Justin Bleeker, Jesse Dyson, Robert Martinez, and German Borja. Your willingness to teach, demonstrate, and share your knowledge made a lasting impact.
While this internship was strictly observational, the students had the opportunity to watch and learn as our team members demonstrated tasks such as blueprint reading, QA/QC documentation, torque and bolt-up procedures, safety protocols, and fabrication methods. These insights helped students connect classroom knowledge to practical industry applications.
Our core values—quality, safety, and integrity—are more than words; they guide every decision we make. These values were central to each interaction with the interns. Our mentors emphasized that follow-through, attention to detail, and taking pride in your work are not only expectations on the job—they are essential attributes that contribute to career success in any field. We hope our interns walked away not just with knowledge of how things are done, but a clear understanding of why it matters to do things the right way.
We were honored to recognize Charlie Figueroa and Jayden Leang at the Somerville High School Senior Banquet, held at the Yegua Center, where they each received a Practicum Plaque commemorating their successful completion of the program. Their professionalism, positive attitudes, and eagerness to learn were evident from day one.
To Charlie and Jayden—congratulations! You’ve taken an important step in exploring career pathways and building the foundation for your future. We can’t wait to see where your journey leads.
