The recently introduced H.R.1 – One Big Beautiful Bill Act outlines significant changes for the energy industry, particularly for natural gas and midstream infrastructure. Among its key provisions are the permanent extension of 100% bonus depreciation, enhanced interest deductibility, and reforms to permitting processes aimed at reducing project delays. These measures are expected to accelerate investment and activity across pipeline and facility construction.
For companies in the energy construction sector, this means more projects, tighter timelines, and increased pressure to deliver. In this environment, quality remains non-negotiable. Faster permitting does not remove the need for thorough inspection and documentation. If anything, it increases the need for strong internal standards to ensure safety, compliance, and reliability, especially when external oversight may be reduced or expedited.

- Following established welding procedures and documentation
- Verifying that testing such as hydrotesting or NDE is conducted accurately and thoroughly
- Ensuring field work aligns with specifications, regardless of timeline pressure
Permanent bonus depreciation creates a financial incentive to invest in long-lasting infrastructure. That investment only delivers value when projects are built to spec and built to last. As policy changes aim to support energy expansion, the role of internal QA/QC processes becomes even more critical. Contractors must be prepared to manage growth without compromising the procedures that ensure long-term performance and safety. H.R.1 may reshape how fast we build but it doesn’t change how well we build.
