June is National Safety Month, an initiative led by the National Safety Council (NSC) to spotlight critical safety topics across the country. Each week of June focuses on a different aspect of safety, and this week’s theme is Employee Engagement.
At its core, safety isn’t just about procedures —it’s about people. The most effective safety programs are built on a foundation of engagement, where employees are encouraged to speak up, take initiative, and look out for one another. When employees are empowered to participate in the safety process, the results are measurable: fewer incidents, improved communication, and a stronger, more safety culture.
Two of the tools we rely on at Evers & Sons to promote active involvement are:
- Risk Observation Cards – Encourages employees to report potential safety hazards that allows our Safety Leadership Team to identify trends and offer additional training or refine procedures
- Stop Work Authority – The right and responsibility to immediately halt work if something appears unsafe.
These practices contribute to a safer workplace for our team. When employees are engaged and equipped with the right tools, we move beyond basic compliance and build a stronger safety culture.
